Gmail App for iPhone/iPad - App Setup

Gmail app on iPhone and iPad IMAP email setup screen

Automatic Account Setup (Recommended)

The Gmail app for iPhone and iPad will attempt to automatically configure your email account using EZBizMail’s secure Auto-Configuration system. In most cases, this allows you to add your email account without manually entering server settings.

  1. Open the Gmail app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap your profile icon, then tap Add another account.
  3. Select Other.
  4. Enter your Email Address and tap Next.
  5. Enter your Email Password and tap Next.
  6. Gmail will attempt to automatically detect and apply the correct server settings.

If automatic setup completes successfully, your email account is ready to use. If you are prompted for server details, continue using the manual setup instructions below.

Note: Auto-setup requires your domain’s Autodiscover / Autoconfig DNS records to be configured correctly. If Gmail is unable to complete automatic configuration, follow the Manual Setup Instructions below.

Emails stored in your Inbox and Sent folders are automatically retained for 180 days. Other system folders (such as Trash and Spam) are retained for 30 days to help manage disk usage. To keep messages longer, use POP3 to download and save a local copy, or when using IMAP, move messages into a custom folder such as “Saved Email”.

Manual Setup - Gmail App for iPhone/iPad – IMAP Setup

⚠ IMPORTANT: The Gmail app for iPhone and iPad uses IMAP only for custom email accounts.
If you prefer POP3 so you can download and archive all mail locally, please use another app such as the built-in Apple Mail app instead.

Overview

This guide explains how to set up your email account in the Gmail app on iPhone or iPad using IMAP with SSL/TLS encryption. The Gmail app can connect to non-Gmail mailboxes as an IMAP client.

Replace {YOUR-SERVER-ID} with the server ID shown in your welcome email (for example, ez22), and use your full email address such as address@example.com.

Mail server settings

Incoming mail (IMAP)

  • Server: {YOUR-SERVER-ID}.ourcontrolpanel.com
  • Port: 993
  • Security: SSL/TLS
  • Username: address@example.com
  • Password: Your email password

Outgoing mail (SMTP)

  • Server: {YOUR-SERVER-ID}.ourcontrolpanel.com
  • Port: 465
  • Security: SSL/TLS
  • Authentication: Required
  • Username: address@example.com
  • Password: Your email password

Note: Emails stored in your Inbox and Sent folders are automatically retained for 180 Days and other systems folders (Trash/Spam etc) are retained for 30 days to help manage disk usage. To keep messages longer, move messages into a custom folder such as “Saved Email”.

Step 1 – Install or open the Gmail app

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the App Store.
  2. Search for Gmail.
  3. Tap Get or Download if it is not already installed.
  4. Open the Gmail app.

Step 2 – Open the “Add Account” screen

  1. In the Gmail app, tap your profile photo or initial in the top-right corner.
  2. Tap Add another account.
  3. On the “Set up email” screen, tap Other (IMAP) or a similar option for “Other provider”.

Step 3 – Enter your email address

  1. Enter your full email address, for example address@example.com.
  2. Tap Next.

If prompted, you may see Google attempting an automatic setup. If it fails or does not detect settings correctly, continue with the manual setup steps.

Step 4 – Enter incoming (IMAP) settings

  • Username: address@example.com
  • Password: Your email password
  • IMAP server: {YOUR-SERVER-ID}.ourcontrolpanel.com
  • Port: 993
  • Security type: SSL/TLS (or “SSL”)

Step 5 – Enter outgoing (SMTP) settings

  • SMTP server: {YOUR-SERVER-ID}.ourcontrolpanel.com
  • Port: 465
  • Security type: SSL/TLS
  • Requires sign-in / Authentication: Yes
  • Username: address@example.com
  • Password: Your email password

Make sure the option to use the same username and password for sending mail is enabled if it appears.

Step 6 – Finish setup

  1. Review the account options (sync frequency, notifications, etc.).
  2. Tap Next or Done to complete the setup.
  3. The Gmail app will test the connection and then open your inbox.
  4. Send a test message to your own address to confirm that you can send and receive email.

Troubleshooting

  • Cannot connect to server: Double-check your server name ({YOUR-SERVER-ID}.ourcontrolpanel.com), email address, and password.
  • Receive works but send fails: Confirm SMTP port 465 is being used with SSL/TLS and that authentication is enabled.
  • Account added as Gmail instead of IMAP: Remove the account and add it again using Other (IMAP), not “Google”.
  • Need POP3? The Gmail app does not support POP3 for external accounts. Use the built-in Apple Mail app for POP3 access.
